I’ve had various partners over the years who were excited about kink but struggled to process things they actively wanted. To pick some totally-entirely-hypothetical examples:

  • someone who is gleefully fascinated by all things related to being spanked/paddled/caned/etc, but then struggles with “hey wait that hurts” while it’s happening

  • someone who identifies as “not a masochist”, but asks for the butt fucking to be more painful to achieve orgasm.

  • someone who calls themselves “the vanilla girlfriend” and peers skeptically at everything, but is disappointed if they didn’t get to say “no no no please no” (“not into the briar patch”) during sex.

“Not a Masochist” is about techniques for both sides of those equations. It is about the circumstance where both partners want the thing but have challenges making it work in the moment.

Educator bio

Russell has been teaching popular kink-related classes since 1999. He also runs Lovingly Handmade Pornography, which is both sneakily educational and an attempt to prove that intensity and fun aren't mutually exclusive in BDSM porn.

This class is produced by KinkRx+

What is “KinkRx+”?
KinkRx+ hosts classes by educators who are not part of the KinkRx teaching organization. Our goal is to bring you all the information that helps you on your journey of exploring kink. If we think someone else has good things to teach, we will support them in getting the information out into the world.
Some of the opinions expressed by these educators can differ or conflict with what is taught in KinkRx classes. We see that as a positive thing. While we will not host educators who teach things we believe to be factually incorrect or impossible to do safely, we believe it’s important to present different perspectives and give people the opportunity to decide for themselves what they prefer to do. After all, this is “adult” education: Learn different points of view, do your own research, and form your own opinions.
