Class description
Scenes are made and broken by how you adapt to the unexpected. Sometimes this means heading off or recovering from a major problem, but much more often it's small things.
Did you notice that the other person is having a harder time than usual with one of their favorite toys? Why did you feel angry when a thing happened, and what did you do about it? Remember that time you made a radical pivot mid-scene and it was awesome? How do you respond to a broken whatever?
Nothing ever goes exactly the way you planned. External events happen, gear fails, ramifications occur. We run with something that's working unexpectedly well. We try new things and do them imperfectly or discover the fantasy was hotter. People make mistakes and are complicated. You can pre-think safety, own what happens, make course corrections, communicate, and choose to learn. These are things you can do before, during, and after play to decrease the risks of harm, and increase the benefits of error.
This class will include presentation on skills and talking through real-life incidents small and large to practice the skills. Many of the incidents will be accompanied by video. Some of Russell's many imperfect moments have been recorded by camera crews, which provide a unique opportunity to dissect exactly what happened, why, how our awareness developed, what we did about it, and how that worked out.
Some of this material can be emotionally challenging, but you will come away from the class with tools for when you encounter the unexpected in your scenes.
Educator bio
Russell has been teaching popular kink-related classes since 1999. He also runs Lovingly Handmade Pornography, which is both sneakily educational and an attempt to prove that intensity and fun aren't mutually exclusive in BDSM porn.
This class is produced by KinkRx+
What is “KinkRx+”?
KinkRx+ hosts classes by educators who are not part of the KinkRx teaching organization. Our goal is to bring you all the information that helps you on your journey of exploring kink. If we think someone else has good things to teach, we will support them in getting the information out into the world.
Some of the opinions expressed by these educators can differ or conflict with what is taught in KinkRx classes. We see that as a positive thing. While we will not host educators who teach things we believe to be factually incorrect or impossible to do safely, we believe it’s important to present different perspectives and give people the opportunity to decide for themselves what they prefer to do. After all, this is “adult” education: Learn different points of view, do your own research, and form your own opinions.
